Gudetama Cafe: Are you eggcited?

After the Hello Kitty Orchid Garden and Pompompurin Cafe, Gudetama is finally joining the club! Hands up if you are a big fan of this Sanrio character. But wait, don't get too eggcited. Let me take you on a virtual tour around this 112-seater cafe consisting of main dining area and garden-themed area with Gudetama water fountain.

The Gudetama water fountain. So instagram-worthy.

Anyone wants to sit on these egg-shaped chairs? Its scatted around the front area of the cafe.

The crazy crowd in this 23,000 square feet restaurant makes it impossible for me to take a detailed picture of its interior. I personally queued for 30 minutes, before being able to step my feet on this egg-themed restaurant. I fell in love with the waffle ceiling, egg-shaped booths, and animated walls. Everything here is incredibly thematic and aesthetic.

Here are some of their popular dishes:

"I'm Cold" Smoked Salmon Benedict ($26.90)

This Gudetama poached egg wrapped in smoked salmon and smothered with Yuzu hollandaise sauce is extremely irresistible. Sitting on a mashed avocado brioche toast, this Gudetama portrays the true epitome of laziness. I am a big fan of Gudetama and salmon, and when they are together, they make a perfect combination. What more do you ask?

"Are You Busy" Burger ($27.50)

Served with double prime beef patty, melted cheese, bacon, and sunny-side-up, squeezed between Gudetama brioche buns, this burger makes up a filling combination. I am considered a big eater, but this Gudetama burger will surely leave you with a happy and full tummy, leaving you with the 'lazy Gudetama' vibe. Just like other burger meal, this also comes with french fries and dipping sauce.

Gudetama Goes On Slide ($19.50)

Any meal is incomplete without dessert, and this premium vanilla soft serve on buttermilk waffle completes everything. Drizzled with chocolate sauce and accompanied by caramelised banana, and macadamia nuts, this dessert is not something to be missed.

My personal thoughts:

I feel that Gudetama cafe is successful in establishing its own themed cafe, compared to other theme cafes. Its playground-themed space is something new and enjoyable, and its food is decent and sizeable, well-suited to its relatively expensive price. The place would have been better if it is less crowded. I waited for more than 30 minutes for my food to be served, after queueing for 30 minutes. They also offer free-flow ice water, but hey, you need to wait again for additional long hours just for that free water. This cafe is the type of cafe that you will visit once or twice in a lifetime, just for you to feel and enjoy the hype – not for regular lunch or dinner.
